The three tiers of Data Protection Operation.

Updated: Apr 12, 2023

As more and more social and economic activities have place online, the importance of privacy and data protection is increasingly recognized.

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is an intergovernmental organization within the United Nations that promotes the interests of developing countries in world trade.

According to UNCTAD, 137 out of 194 countries had put in place legislation to secure the protection of data and privacy.

As we are talking about laws and regulations, it seems obvious that the right function to handle this challenge within the organiztion is the legal council.

Yes, but ...  handling  data protection does not end by that.

We propose a three tiers approach to the challenge:

• Knowledge -  to understand, analyze, plan and implement data protection operation, there is a need to be knowledgeable and updated in few realms, including technology, cyber security, business processes, risk management and ... International laws and regulations.

• Maintenance - a lot of day by day tasks are involved in data protection operations. This includes, among other things, maping processing activities, taking care of data subject rights, develop relevant policies, procedures and processes and more.

• Automation - Wherever possible, it is advisable to use automation to eliminate as much manual, administrative work as possible from data protection activities, so that the organizations will be able to scale their activities and resources to meet the demands of an increasing compliance scope.

We, at Data Protection Matters, are providing complete, end-to-end, and comprehensive services to fulfill Data protection requirements in a one-stop shop concept.
